GUAN HER NG was born into a Buddhist family. The “Guan” in his given name was inspired by the name of Guan Yin Bodhisattva, as his mother has a special affinity with Guan Yin. At the age of 12, he became involved with a small branch of Fo Guang Shan in the Netherlands. After graduating from high school, he came across a poem from Master Sheng Yen that consolidated his faith in Chan Buddhism. He now follows the Chan tradition under guidance of Master Hsing Yun.
