Buddhistdoor Global Moves to New Premises

Dear readers and friends of Buddhistdoor Global,

After more than a decade based at the Buddhist temple Wang Fat Ching She (WFCS) in Hong Kong, Buddhistdoor Global has moved to new offices so that the 80-year-old WFCS can undergo extensive renovations.

Administered by the charitable organization Tung Lin Kok Yuen since 1960, WFCS was built in 1938 by the Buddhist householder Wong Kit-wun as a meditation retreat for his third wife. A unique blend of Chinese and Western architectural influences, the temple rapidly became a center of Buddhist learning and Dharma assemblies. In 1941, the building was seized by the Japanese army for use as a base during the occupation of Hong Kong in the Second World War.

The temple has hosted many famous Chinese monastics from different Buddhist schools and lineages, and formed ties with important organizations such as Hong Kong Buddhist College. Since the turn of the century, WFCS has functioned as a community center, hosting regular classes in calligraphy, yoga, and qigong, and has housed the Buddhistdoor team since 2006.

Now a new chapter begins as renovations promise a stronger structure that will allow WFCS to continue its proud history of serving Hong Kong’s Buddhist community for many more years to come.
