The Spiral Staircases of Corinth

When I look up at you,
I feel like the glass shield
around the flames of a candle
stick chandelier, as your tears
fall like drops of frozen crystal.

When I hold you, I feel set
like a carved mahogany table
with pink and creme colored
carnations as the centerpiece.

When we trust each other, our love
feels driven by the winds, and the
wheels of time spin with hand crafted
petals made of corrugated sheet iron.

When we sit in silence,
I feel like an empty rocking chair
facing an empty yard. My shadows
forming illusions in the woods.

When we find what it is that we are
looking for, I feel like the Greeks did when
they climbed the spiral staircases of Corinth.
