HE Sangay Dorji speaks on Gelephu Mindfulness City (2)

In the 21st century, the world is changing quickly and sometimes facing many challenges. While some countries deal with internal problems and others focus on rapid economic growth, Bhutan is in a special position between two large countries, China and India. In this fast-changing world, we understand that to protect our sovereignty, independence, and self-reliance, we must act wisely and without delay.

As a small country, Bhutan does not try to compete in industry or military power. Instead, our development depends on using the special treasures we have, which no other country possesses. Our greatest strength is the pure and sacred tradition of Vajrayana Buddhism, also known as the “Diamond Vehicle.”

This tradition was brought by Guru Rinpoche in the 8th century and later strengthened by Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyal in the 17th century. It has been carefully preserved in its pure form for over 400 years.

Today, Bhutan remains one of the few places where these ancient teachings are still actively practiced and lived. It is upon this incomparable foundation that the Gelephu Mindfulness City is conceived and we are ready to start the GMC.
