The Buddhist Society is hosting Charles Manson for a meditation class on the remaining Thursdays for the last months of 2024. The talks can be reserved at this link.
The dates for Charles’ talks are: 12th September, 3rd October, 7th November, and 5th December. I was too late for the first half of classes, but fortunately, they are held both in person and online at 6:30pm GMT.
The Buddhist Society was founded in 1924 by the barrister and Mahayana Buddhist Christmas Humphreys QC (1901–83), building on the pioneer work of the Buddhist Society of Great Britain.
Charles Manson has long been involved in the field of Tibetological manuscripts and archival matter. Charles was in Buddhist meditation retreat for 8 years and currently works in the British Library and at the Bodleian Library as cataloguer for the Tibetan literature collections therein. He wrote the definitive English-language book on Karma Pakshi (1204–83), a mahasiddha and tremendously influential figure in Vajrayana Buddhism. Karma Pakshi helped form the reincarnate Lama tradition in its early stages of development, which led 300 years later to the Karmapas and the Dalai Lamas traditions. Furthermore, he was a master of meditation. A visionary teacher, he was influential in the courts of two Mongolian emperors, Kublai Khan and Mongke Khan, and gave both emperors meditation advice.
About the class
Karma Pakshi returns to the modern world through Charles Manson’s meditation classes. His program is divided into 4 parts of meditations based on the instructions of the Tibetan mahasiddha, Karma Pakshi. His meditations are known as “Introduction to the 4 Kayas.” Karma Pakshi extolled the “4 Kayas” meditations far and wide, even teaching them to the Mongol emperors Kublai Khan and Mongke Khan. The meditation session will include some breathing practice integrated into visualisation meditation. Graduated, guiding explanations will be given.
