Among the many sacred landmarks destined for the Gelephu Mindfulness City, several projects stand out as profound symbols of our national devotion and spiritual aspiration.
In honor of His Majesty the King, one of the most magnificent stupas in the region is to be consecrated. Measuring an expansive 108 meters by 108 meters and rising 45 meters in height, the Jarung Khahor Stupa—inspired by the historic Boudhanath Stupa in Kathmandu—will serve as a monumental pillar of faith.
Simultaneously, under the holy patronage of His Holiness the Je Khenpo, a noble project is underway to construct the Dorden Tashi Gomang Chorten. Drawing architectural inspiration from the sacred Mahabodhi Temple in Bodh Gaya, India—the very site of the Buddha’s enlightenment—this Chorten will stand as a testament to the enduring strength of the Dharma in our Kingdom.
It is His Majesty’s sublime vision to transform Gelephu into a terrestrial Shambhala—a celestial haven and a land of enlightenment. This is to be a sanctuary where wisdom, peace, and spiritual perfection are not only practiced but meticulously preserved for all of humanity. It is destined to become an enduring global symbol of hope, purity, and the highest spiritual attainment.
In a breathtaking demonstration of national unity and spiritual resolve, His Majesty envisions the construction of 108 Jangchub Chortens along an 11-kilometer stretch. Each stupa will stand 15 meters tall. Most extraordinary is the intent to complete this monumental effort within the span of a single day. Such an endeavor is more than a feat of engineering; it is a collective offering of merit, symbolizing the speed and power of our shared commitment to this sacred vision.
To realize the historic feat of constructing 108 Jangchub Chortens in a single day, a rigorous six-to-seven-month preparation period is required, offering a rare opportunity for every Bhutanese to accumulate vast merit and purify karma. These sacred monuments, along with the Jarung Khahor Stupa and the Dorden Tashi Gomang Chorten, are envisioned as wish-fulfilling landmarks within His Majesty’s vision of a modern-day Shambhala—a land of enlightenment and peace. Whether you choose to financially sponsor a stupa in your family’s name or offer your devotion through physical labor during the preparation phase, your contribution is vital. This is a profound moment to render your service to a project of such spiritual magnitude, building an enduring symbol of purity that will benefit your lineage and all sentient beings for generations to come.
