3. Sacred Service and Voluntary Contribution

The third pathway to engagement is through five days of dedicated voluntary service. While five days may seem modest in the context of such a vast project, the collective impact of the Bhutanese people—spanning every generation from our youth to our revered elders in their eighties and nineties—is immeasurable. In our tradition, such service is a profound method to accumulate merit and undergo spiritual purification. As the Gelephu Mindfulness City evolves into a modern-day Shambhala—a sacred sanctuary of peace every hour of labor offered becomes a virtuous act. Even a single day of selfless contribution is not merely physical work; it is a spiritual commitment toward the liberation and benefit of all sentient beings. By offering our service, we weave our own merit into the very foundations of this holy land.

To our fellow Bhutanese residing abroad: we often witness in some nations how, in times of adversity or conflict, citizens leave everything behind to join the front lines and safeguard their sovereignty. They are willing to offer the ultimate sacrifice for their homeland. We are not being called to sacrifice our lives; rather, we are being invited to build a greater spiritual sanctuary—a Buddhist epicenter unlike any other in existence.

I earnestly request those living beyond our borders to step forward and contribute to this act of nation-building. Whether through financial support or manual volunteer service, every contribution in accordance with your capability is vital. Even a skill as humble yet essential as planting a tree is a valued service. While global experts are being engaged to construct the GMC, our national pride will be infinitely greater if this city is built by the hands of our own people.

By returning to volunteer, you will gain a profound, grassroots understanding of this vision. When you eventually return to your respective countries of residence, you will do so as an empowered and responsible citizen, uniquely equipped to spread awareness and share the authentic story of the Gelephu Mindfulness City with the world.
