John originally hails from Toronto, Canada. He has been living in Hong Kong for almost 30 years, where he has been a lecturer and general education course co-ordinator. After his retirement he worked as a content editor at Buddhistdoor and has contributed many articles on Buddhist issues. He has a broad range of interests including music, film, and drama, and has also performed with a local Cantonese drama group. His main interest in Buddhism is the Theravada tradition and examining Buddhism in Bangladesh and the indigenous peoples of the Chittagong Hill Tracts. He became a Buddhist in 1995 in Thailand.
