Public Memorials for Robert H. N. Ho Held at Tung Lin Kok Yuen in Hong Kong and Vancouver

Hong Kong’s public memorial for Mr. Robert H. N. Ho was held at Tung Lin Kok Yuen, Happy Valley on the evening of 20 November, with members of the public and the Buddhist tradition from all over the city attending. Mr. Ho was a philanthropist, patron of contemporary Buddhism, and newspaper journalist and editor. He was the son of General Ho Shai Lai and grandson of Sir Robert Ho Tung. He founded Buddhistdoor Global in 1995.

He had passed away peacefully in Vancouver, Canada on November 30, 2025, at the age of 93. Mr. Ho is survived by his wife Greta, his children Robert and Kevin, his daughter-in-law Raquel, and his five grandchildren Robert Damian, Lachlan, Kiara, Madeleine and Theodore.

A private funeral had been held in Vancouver, followed by cremation. In the Canadian city Mr. Ho called home since 1994, Buddhist prayer services were held at Tung Lin Kok Yuen, Canada Society and officiated by abbot Ven. Tsang Chit on 16 December. It was followed by a “Celebration of Life” drinks reception at the Fairmont Pacific Rim Hotel, Canada Place.

Tung Lin Kok Yuen in Hong Kong held its equivalent Buddhist prayer services two nights ago. It has been a difficult year for the Buddhist community in Hong Kong. The memorial was officiated by three of the most senior monks of the Chinese Buddhist schools in Hong Kong: Ven. Kuan Yun, Chairman of the Hong Kong Buddhist Association, Ven. Hin Hung, CBS Senior Fellow and Honorary Assistant Professor at The University of Hong Kong’s Centre of Buddhist Studies, and Ven. Jingyin, abbot of Po Lin Monastery, who suddenly entered Parinirvana just one day after Mr. Ho’s memorial.

Mr. Ho left behind a great legacy, and the host of those who treasured his person, work, and generosity were present at both memorials in Vancouver and Hong Kong. May he find repose in Amitabha’s Land of Bliss and reach Buddhahood swiftly.
