Dig

Image and poem by Oleg Yuzefpolsky

Dig your heart out and leave it in the wild forest,
So creatures can nourish themselves from it.
Go in the deep cave and leave your mind pulsing prayers
Through every grain and water of earth’s inner core.
Throw your bones to the hungry dogs in empty town.
Make a nest for hatchlings out of your skin.
Now, finally, live
